Appearance & Traits

  • Coloration: Shimmering electric blue body with metallic highlights. Males are especially vivid.
  • Fins: The "Elephant Ear" name refers to the large, flowing pectoral fins that resemble elephant ears 
  • Size: Typically 1.5–2 inches (3.8–5 cm) when fully grown 
  • Sexual Dimorphism:
    • Males: Smaller, more colorful, with modified anal fin (gonopodium).
    • Females: Larger, less colorful, with a gravid spot near the anal fin

Tank Setup

  • Minimum Tank Size: 10 gallons for a pair or small group 
  • Water Parameters:
    • Temperature: 74–82°F (23–28°C)
    • pH: 6.8–7.8
    • Hardness: 8–12 dGH
  • Aquascaping:
    • Use live or artificial plants for cover.
    • Provide calm water flow to protect delicate fins
    • Include hiding spots for fry if breeding.

Diet

  • Omnivorous:
