Identification

Neritina juttingae is a small, neutral colour snail covered in small spikes, giving a similar look to the classic King Koopa Snail.

Colour and pattern vary by population.

Tank Size

  • Minimum 5 gallons per snail
  • Great for nano tanks and large planted tanks alike

Water Parameters

These snails require hard, alkaline water to maintain shell health.

  • pH: 7.0–8.5
  • Hardness: Medium–hard (KH & GH important)

They can tolerate freshwater long‑term, but naturally inhabit brackish‑to‑fresh transitions.

Environment

  • Rocks, wood, glass surfaces for grazing
  • Tight lid — excellent climbers

Diet

A true algae‑grazing snail.
They eat:

  • Green algae
  • Diatoms
  • Biofilm

They do not eat healthy plants.


Temperament & Tank Mates

Completely peaceful and compatible with:

  • Tetras, rasboras, danios
  • Shrimp
  • Corydoras
  • Small peaceful community fish

Avoid:

  • Loaches
  • Puffers
  • Crayfish
  • Aggressive cichlids

Breeding

  • Neritina species cannot complete their lifecycle in freshwater
  • They will lay white sesame‑seed‑like eggs on hard surfaces
  • Eggs do not hatch in freshwater systems
