Snowball Shrimp Neocaridina davidi - Locally Bred-Shrimp Index

Snowball shrimp, scientifically known as Neocaridina davidi var. “Snowball,” are a selectively bred color variant of the Caridina genus. Originating from Taiwan these charming crustaceans have gained significant popularity within the aquarium hobby due to their stunning white colouration  

1. Appearance:

   • Snowball shrimps are small and elongated, with a translucent white body. Some individuals may feature a slight blue tint.
   • Their eggs are also pure white and resemble tiny snowballs.

2. Taxonomy:

   • There has been some confusion regarding the taxonomy of Snowball shrimp. Initially, they were thought to be selectively bred variants of Neocaridina cf. zhangjiajiensis.
   • However, taxonomists later reclassified them as Neocaridina palmata var. 

3. Hardiness and Breeding:

   • Snowball shrimps are hardy and prolific breeders, making them an excellent choice for beginners in the hobby.
